Police were informed that a second suspect boarded an SUV and made his way to Noblet Street following the capture of a 42-year-old man who was observed on Arnold Close Street. An official and his four-legged accomplice, Corroded, were walking watch on Noblet Road not long before 4am when they saw a man riding a SUV through the nursery region of the apartment complex.
The man allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the officer in the hand when the officer confronted him. Rusty bit the officer to protect his handlers, despite allegedly making multiple attempts to stab the dog and the officer once more.
When additional police arrived, the man was still holding the screwdriver. After the officer was treated for hand injuries, paramedics discovered that Rusty had not been stabbed thanks to his stab-resistant harness.
The 27-year-old Findon man was apprehended and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he received treatment for injuries he sustained from a dog bite. The man is likely to face a number of charges, including contempt of police, assaulting essential emergency personnel, attempting to kill or seriously injure a working animal, and possession of an object. He was declined bail to show up in Port Adelaide Justices Court on Thursday. On Thursday night, Rusty and his agent will take to the streets.
